The CIVIC Scholars Program believe Hampton Roads in strongest when all generations are well connected and given opportunity to learn from each other.

That’s why Mentor Link is an integral part of the CIVIC Scholars Programs!

Through Mentor Link, the CIVIC Scholars Program facilitates engaging connections between Scholars and executive-level leaders. mentors and Mentees discuss career questions, community involvement, professionalism, and more.

Mentor Link Programs

Mentorship

  • CIVIC Scholars of Junior and Senior standing get paired with an executive mentor based on the student’s academic and career goals
  • Attend “Mentor Night” on Thursday, January 25th, 2018
  • 3-4 monthly meeting between January 2018 and May 2018

Lunch with an Executive

  • CIVIC Scholars of Freshman and Sophomore standing get the opportunity to meet and network with an executive leader in the area
  • Attend “Mentor Night” on Thursday, January 25th, 2018
  • One lunch meeting during the 2018 Spring semester

How do Mentors help their CIVIC Scholar mentee?

  • Career guidance: “I’m thinking about this career and am considering my next steps. What do you think?
  • Civic engagement advice: “I want to do more for my community. How did you get more involved?”
  • Professionalism answers: “How can I manage my email inbox better” “When should I follow up with someone?” “What are some big red flags in the workplace?”
  • Social support: “I’m in a new leadership position and feel unprepared – have you ever felt this way? How did you handle the situation?”
