State of the Cruise Industry

A Conversation with Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy

You are invited to join the CIVIC Leadership Institute for the “State of the Cruise Industry” on Thursday, April 15th. During a very special CIVIC Fireside Chat, Carnival Cruise Line’s President Christine Duffy will share her unique insight into the industry’s plan for sailing beyond COVID-19, and how this focus impacts cruising from the 757.

In 2019, the international cruise industry welcomed nearly 30 million passengers, created jobs for 1.8 million people, and contributed more than $154 billion to the global economy. Our region is the home to the only cruise terminal in the Commonwealth, located in downtown Norfolk at the Decker Half Moone Center. Dr. Lee Vreeland and Dr. Kevin Swann – Vaccination Clinics

Recently, Riverside Health Systems partnered with CIVIC alums from the Class of 2016, Dr. Kevin Swann and Dr. Lee Vreeland to come together and fight the pandemic by combining their resources to expand local vaccine clinics. Read more about how this partnership has brought almost 2,000 vaccinations to the Peninsula’s southeast community.


CIVIC Executive Program

Nominations for the executive program are accepted year-round; however, if you would like your candidate to be considered by our nominating committee for the upcoming Class of 2022, please submit your nomination by April 23rd

The CIVIC Leadership Executive program runs from October to May each year. Do you know of an executive leader who is excited to learn more about the challenges and opportunities our region faces or is interested in getting involved in key regional initiatives? All nominations are presented to the nomination committee for consideration.


CIVIC Scholars Program

Nominations for the Scholars Program are accepted year-round; however, if you would like your candidate to be considered for this year’s program, please submit your nomination by June 1!

The CIVIC Scholars Program’s mission is to foster a spirit of civic engagement, professionalism, and leadership in college students of Hampton Roads to build a community of leaders who are excellently prepared for their careers and a life of civic engagement. We are seeking ODU or TCC freshmen, sophomore, and juniors with a GPA of 2.8 or higher for the CIVIC Scholars Class of 2022.

The CIVIC Leadership Institute is proud to present the current Best Class Ever trophy to…………

The Class of 2017! Congratulations!!!

This is the second time the Class of 2017 has claimed the title of best class ever. They clinched the trophy during our Giving Tuesday Challenge by raising over 150% of their goal of $2,017.00. Finishing in a close second place was the Class of 2019, followed by 2018, 2015 and 2014.

Thank you to ALL of our alumni for your support over this past year. Your generous contributions have made a lasting impact. We have been touched by the extraordinary support from our CIVIC community. For those of you who have your eye on the next Best Class Ever title, the race has already begun for this year. Accumulate points by donating, renewing your membership or attending events, both virtual and in person.
